I have googled but cant seem to find any information on both of my problems What is the cause of a scraping sound and feel? all the plates seem strait and the cap looks very clean, so what would be the cause of the scraping noise and scraping feel? I need this in order to position my tuning barrels properly after a string replacement and the tuning caps need to be fully meshed.Ī large air variable capacitor like the ones you get in old tube signal generators (long oblong thing with plates) I have one that makes a metallic scraping sound in a certain place when turning it. The tuning capacitors in a radio (small square block things) how can you tell when you can't see the plates clear that the cap is fully meshed? I have no cap tester, I was wondering if this could be tested with a DVM? I.E a bigger volt reading on the DVM = Fully meshed. I would like some help on variable capacitors air plate ones. Not sure if I am posting this in the right forum as I can't seem to find a board for general radio electronics questions. ![]()
